When the Irish dancers come stepping up Lockport Street, you know spring is here at last. Our own old-fashioned St. Patrick’s Day celebration will soon be here.
This year, music will be more abundant than ever, with four bagpipe bands lined up to march in the parade, along with other musical ensembles and the always crowd-pleasing Irish Dancers. Making its way through some of the historic neighborhoods surrounding the village’s retail center, the parade once again will be a kickoff for a full afternoon of fun in the downtown core, from the complimentary inflatable bouncer to the array of great restaurants downtown that will have their doors open wide.
Also returning will be the downtown pub crawl, which celebrates some of Plainfield’s best taverns. Special prizes and cash drawings add to the merriment. Entries are being accepted for floats, all sorts of marchers, and musical and dancing groups. All parade entries must bear an Irish theme, and music is encouraged, as is passing out sweets and treats to the many spectators. Entry forms and payment are being accepted through March 14th.
If you would like to volunteer or enter the parade, please contact us today!

There’s a new saint in town.
St. Patrick gets a lot of the attention this time of year, what with chasing the snakes out of Ireland and all. But a lesser-known saint serves an even more worthy cause: St. Baldrick. For the second time, the Plainfield St. Baldrick’s fundraiser for childhood cancer research will be part of the Hometown Irish Parade festivities. With support from the Knights of Columbus’ Holy Spirit Council, the locks will fly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the old fire station #1, on Des Plaines Street just north of Lockport Street. Take a moment to “Like” our Facebook page for this event.
